Companies worldwide \u2013 including in Japan  – must take action now, to cut their carbon emissions.<\/strong> It\u2019s a matter of survival for mankind and for nature. But it\u2019s also a matter of survival for the companies themselves: those who do not adapt to a low-carbon economy will die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Japan, many firms are engaged in disclosure initiatives such as CDP and TCFD. A growing number of companies are setting long-term climate goals, such as carbon neutrality. But this is not enough: without a low-carbon transition plan, these claims remain virtual, and can be seen as greenwashing.<\/strong> Around the world, investors, consumers, NGOs and regulators are now asking companies to move from target-setting to taking action<\/strong>. In Japan, the Financial Services Agency joins the call for better transition planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defining a transition plan is not easy, because this is where the long-term goal is confronted with the reality of budget allocation, engagement with suppliers and clients, readiness of management, availability of technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to help firms in this next stage of their climate journey, French environmental agency ADEME and global non-profit CDP have developed ACT<\/a>. Identified by the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero, ACT is the most comprehensive international methodology allowing firms to design and assess their low-carbon transition strategy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After programs in Europe and the Americas, the ACT Initiative now comes to Japan<\/strong>. In this event, Japanese companies, financial institutions, and policymakers will be able to know more about how ACT can be used to reduce their climate-related risks and reinforce their competitiveness in a global low-carbon economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
