On 7th July 2022, more than 60 professionals from various sectors of the Japanese economy gathered in Tokyo to learn more about the ACT methodology, the most comprehensive international framework for assessing and designing low-carbon transition strategies of businesses, co-developed by ADEME and CDP.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The event, organized by ACT co-developer ADEME <\/a>in partnership with Codo Advisory<\/a>, featured speeches and presentations from experts from the Embassy of France in Japan<\/strong><\/a>, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan<\/strong><\/a>, ADEME<\/strong><\/a>, CDP<\/strong><\/a> and Codo Advisory<\/strong><\/a>. Two Japanese companies involved in the methodology roadtest of ACT, Nippon Paint<\/strong> <\/a>and AGC<\/a>, <\/strong>also shared their own experience with the ACT framework (see the full agenda and list of speakers here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While a large number of Japanese companies recognize and use already frameworks such as CDP scoring, TCFD disclosure or SBT certification, and many have set “net-zero targets” for 2050 (or earlier in some cases), there is often a gap between pledges and action plans. The objective of this event was to introduce ACT as a relevant framework for the Japanese business community<\/strong> to fill this gap, by establishing credible and comprehensive transition plans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representatives of the Embassy of France in Japan and the Ministry of Industry and Trade raised high hopes for Codo<\/strong>, becoming a domestic force that will help Japanese companies contribute to achieving country-wide and global decarbonisation<\/strong>. Following their opening speeches, the French ecological agency ADEME and global non-profit CDP emphasised how the ACT methodologies, which they co-developed, represent a comprehensive approach to assess private companies<\/strong> in all sectors and ensure that they remain accountable for effectively contributing to global climate objectives, such as the ones set out within the Paris Agreement. Then, Codo’s CEO explained the background from which her company became the first independent consultancy to bring ACT methodology to Japan<\/strong>. The seminar ended with the interventions of two Japanese companies that contributed to the development of the ACT methodology<\/strong>, in which they shared with the assembly how they gained maturity on corporate decarbonisation<\/strong> through this valuable experience and the numerous challenges it came whith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the technical discussions, ADEME and Codo Advisory signed a memorandum of understanding, positioning Codo as strategic partner for the implementation of ACT in Japan<\/strong>. After having become in March this year the first ACT-certified consultancy in Japan, Codo confirms its commitment to supporting solid low-carbon transition plans of Japanese firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
