Here\u2019s what caught our attention last week.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">World | 2023 to be a turning point for climate litigation&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 2022, courts from Indonesia to Australia have issued ground-breaking verdicts that have shut down polluting power facilities. 2023 is expected to be even more pivotal in forcing action on governments and companies.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The United Nations will vote on a landmark resolution on human rights and climate change early this year. If the bill is enacted, the International Court of Justice will have to rule on what duties governments have under international law to protect the rights of current and future generations from the detrimental effects of climate change.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Climate litigation against the private sector is also expected to grow, with the financial sector getting the biggest hit.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Read more about this story:<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2023\/jan\/04\/why-2023-will-be-a-watershed-year-for-climate-litigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Guardian,<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-08\/what-2023-holds-for-the-fight-against-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a><em><\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment from Codo: <\/strong>More than ever, corporates with insufficient climate plans or engaged in greenwashing activities are at risk of becoming targets for NGOs and activist investors. Attacks can take place in court, but also through other means such as shareholder resolutions aiming at forcing changes in the company\u2019s plans or management team.
