As a social update company, UPDATER Inc. provides SX* services to both corporate and individual customers. “Minna Denryoku”, a renewable energy business that is the first in the world to commercialize electricity traceability using proprietary patented blockchain technology, has become one of the top-ranking platforms in Japan. “Minna Air”, a wellbeing business, and “TADORi”, an ethical procurement business, are being developed to realize a “face to face lifestyle”.

Why Updater Inc. has chosen Biodiversity Collage
UPDATER Inc.’s new service, “Minna SX for Biz,” is designed to encourage SX actions by corporate customers by providing information, building communities, and introducing SX solutions from UPDATER and various partners around five themes: “Decarbonization,” “Biodiversity,” “Circular Economy,” “Well-Being,” and “Community Revitalization”. As Biodiversity Collage is an easy and fun way to learn about biodiversity and will be introduced as a partner solution in the “Biodiversity” theme, UPDATER has decided to organize a workshop for their own employees.

Codo Advisory conducted a Biodiversity Collage workshop in March 2024 for 13 employees of UPDATER Inc.
UPDATER had two objectives when requesting this workshop:
- “Gaining a deeper understanding of Biodiversity Collage through a hands-on experience so that we can properly convey the significance and appeal of it to our customers“: Following the workshop, participants said that they were able to “gain a deeper understanding of ecosystem services and the reasons for their degradation along with all the connections between them” and that they “were able to learn a lot about biodiversity through a card game“. They thought “the content was very appealing even for people who don’t know about biodiversity“.
- “Deepen our employees’ understanding of biodiversity“: Through a survey conducted after the workshop, it was found that the participants’ understanding of biodiversity had increased by 51% compared to their pre-workshop level. As well, all participants regarded biodiversity initatives as “very important”. A participant commented that “before the workshop, I thought that biodiversity was something very difficult to understand but through this workshop I could understand that there are actions that I can take immediately“.

The action discussion part included brainstorming on actions to be taken at the individual, company, and societal levels, allowing all participants to think from their own perspective. We will build on what we have learnt from the workshop to consider what actions to take regarding our business in the future. Despite the rather difficult theme of biodiversity, the atmosphere was very cheerful and fun, and it was a wonderful time for everyone to think and share their thoughts and ideas!
