As the world moves toward decarbonization and pressure grows on all stakeholders, businesses are expected by consumers and investors to become truly sustainable. Looking at Europe as a role model, many countries including Japan are adopting international frameworks for corporate climate action. Academia and the private sector, including advisory agencies, can facilitate the transformation by identifying together new pathways. With still a strong focus on technologies, the role of corporate education and governance in enabling a low-carbon transition is overlooked.

To close this gap, GLOCAL, an EU-funded international master’s focusing on challenging and interrogating economic norms, signed an associate partnership agreement with Codo Advisory, a new consultancy founded in Japan to support the decarbonization plans of Japanese firms.
“Greenwashing must end, we need companies to ground their climate plans in science. Codo is honored to be the first private company to become an associate partner of GLOCAL. We look forward to working further with students and professors from leading universities such as Glasgow, Barcelona and Kyoto”, comments Stéfan Le Dû, COO of Codo.
Under this partnership, GLOCAL and Codo will facilitate the exchange of science-based knowledge and ideas between Europe and Japan, to improve corporate climate plans and communication. Joint activities agreed upon include organizing career talks to educate the next generations of professionals and conducting joint research on environmental sustainability in businesses.
“The GLOCAL Programme is delighted to partner with CODO Advisory. This is an excellent opportunity to show the benefits of academic and private cooperation for innovating, developing new ideas and finding solutions that will pave the way for sustainable change. Goals which we are delighted to see our students take the lead on through this unique partnership.”, notes Steven Mulholland, Partner Engagement Coordinator of GLOCAL.
