Happy first anniversary to ourselves!

Codo was formally established one year ago, on 28th March 2022, with a mission: help companies in Japan improve their decarbonization plans, to better align with global expectations. Let’s have a look at some of our achievements over these first 365 days of existence – and talk about our next steps!

2022-2023: First services, clients, partners and events

After initially developing our strategic advisory services around the ACT methodology from CDP and ADEME, identified as a first pillar for Codo from the beginning, we got the honor of being identified by two major Japanese institutions from the banking and insurance sectors. A trilateral partnership between Codo, Mitsubishi UFG and Tokio Marine Insurance was signed at the end of 2022, allowing us to join an initiative to develop new services for corporate low-carbon transition planning and disclosure.

The end of 2022 was also marked by the launch of Codo’s second branch of services: corporate education support, starting with the Climate Fresk, a workshop designed in France and that Codo became the first private consultancy to offer in Japanese. We already held several successful sessions, in Tokyo and Fukuoka. In February this year, we organized for Air Liquide the largest Climate Fresk workshop in Japan.

We are very grateful to the Japanese and European companies who have been our clients in this first year, in Tokyo and in Kyushu. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to support firms of very different sizes – ranging from eight employees to several thousand – in sectors as diverse as air transport, railways, fashion, marketing or banking.

These first achievements have been made possible with the support of our many networks, partners and allies. Month after month, we have expanded our connections, towards non-profit organizations, public agencies, private firms and academic organizations, both within and outside of Japan. We know that cooperation and the end of siloed approaches are keys to building sustainable societies and economies.

Events have also been an important part of our work in 2022, including our launching event in the presence of the Mayor of Fukuoka in April, a conference about the ACT methodology with the Embassy of France in July and an international webinar with the World Benchmarking Alliance and CDPe in December.

We are proud of our dynamic, creative – and female-empowered (70% of our workforce are women!) – team. We have gathered talent from Japan, Europe and the US, to better connect companies in Japan and international sustainability trends and methods.

2023-2024: What’s next for year two?

Upcoming events

To celebrate our first year, we have planned several events in April and May, as organizer, co-organizer or speaker. Have a look at the agendas and join us!

New services

We are not stopping there! The services such as ACT advisory and Climate Fresk workshops launched during our first year were the basis of a more comprehensive catalogue, that we will keep expanding – with new services to be launched in the coming days, weeks and months.

These include the introduction of new formats on climate and biodiversity education, and the development of connections with the growing B Corp ecosystem in Japan. Additionally, we plan to offer boutique consulting services to help companies in Japan address a wider range of challenges regarding their corporate sustainability plans.

Stay tuned for updates on our social media, newsletter and website – currently in renewal to better accommodate the needs of our increased clientele and to better present our new services.
